BEST CONFERENCE EVER? ā¤ļøšš©š©š©š©
Been involved in a fair few left-wing conferences in Ireland over the years but never seen anything like this.
First ever Irish working-class studies conference, jam-packed with online & offline events on every conceivable related subject – 8th-12th November. Over 5 days there will be 30 panels, 2 Keynote Speakers and 2 live Performance evenings.
I’m talking on a zoom panel entitled Working-Class Poets on Poetry, details in photo, but I will be attending absolutely everything & drinking up the knowledge!
My particular topic on that panel is ‘The Persistence of The Oral ā folksong, identity, & social memory in Irish working class culture.’
I will be talking about our bilingual song tradition and how this serves as the ‘literature’ of the working-class(& all the marginalised) in Ireland.
Some job done here pulling it all together. Congrats to Emma Christina, Sophie Meehan & all involved. Legends!
Whole brilliant programme here: https://workingclassstudies.com
