Christy Moore and Declan Sinnott put on a very lively & impassioned show in a sold-out Parkview Hotel in Newtownmountkennedy last night.

Among those remembered & celebrated in song were Christy’s lifelong friend Gay Byrne (Cliffs of Dooneen), Ewan McColl (The First Time Ever I saw your face), & murder victim Lyra McKee (Burning Times).

Great to have the 500 strong crowd of irish workers singing along to the anti-fascist anthem Viva La Quinta Brigada!

Nancy Spain, Back Home in Derry, Black is the Colour, Ride On, Lisdoonvarna, Beeswing….it was a set packed with classics….

But there were newer tunes too & a stand out moment of the debut of a new song ‘while the clock ticks down to zero’ inspired by Greta Thunberg & the climate rebellion – it could be an anthem for our times & I can’t wait for a studio version. Maybe it will be a single – i hope so

Again, it was a huge privilege to hear Christy recite his version of my poem Lost Tribe of The Wicklow Mountains – very apt for the live audience. Christy then invited me on stage to recite a poem and I chimed in with the environmental theme by reading my post-apocalyptic number Return of The Earl, which was received very warmly.

The night ended with Nancy Spain & a stirring rendition of the great Bobby Sands’ Back Home in Derry, and then the whole crowd rose raucously to their feet to ovate….

Christy, as usual, is gigging constantly over the next few months – catch him if you can, he’s in great form!
